This article published in the Economist examines the UK’s government aims to deliver a Global Britain. With the completion of a government report ‘Global Britain in a Competitive Age’, the UK’s foreign, security, defence and aid policy is poised for a transformation. However, although the shifting trade and military priorities are noted, technology is identified as a key theme for the government over the next decade. Aiming to be a ‘science and technology superpower’ by 2030 the UK will be increasing investment in R&D. But with planned investments still lagging behind that in OECD nations, questions remain on how well the government can deliver.
